WEEKLY ATTENDANCE: 82

Meet American Fork Presbyterian Church

The American Fork Presbyterian Church is a historic "gem" in the heart of Utah County, formed in 1877. The building itself is on the National Register of Historic Places. While the congregation is proud of this heritage, it's much more than that -- as the culture has become more polarized, AFPC has become a refuge for believers across the political, cultural, and socioeconomic spectrum who want to unite around their shared faith in Christ.

About the Senior Pastor

American Fork Presbyterian is seeking a Pastor who can shepherd a diverse congregation with solid theology, a non-judgmental attitude, and particular skills in preaching and teaching. The ideal candidate will be able to navigate the unique, rapidly changing culture of Utah while creating a safe, non-confrontational environment for people from other faith traditions who are exploring the Gospel.

The Senior Pastor's responsibilities include:

  • Preaching & Teaching: Deliver authentic, biblical sermons that often utilize illustrations and humor and practical application to daily life.
  • Shepherding: Take a loving, Christ-centered community and increase its spiritual health through relational care and visitation.
  • Leadership: Provide stability and organization, laying a foundation for the church's future.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with the surrounding community with wisdom, offering a counter-cultural but welcoming Christian witness.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Preaching
  •  Leading Sunday worship.
  • Administering the sacraments.
  • Planning Sunday services in coordination with the Session and musicians.
  • Teaching adult Sunday School (9 months a year, with a 3-month break during the summer months).
  •  Community outreach.
  •  Writing “The Weekly," a brief weekly email newsletter, used to increase congregational engagement.
  •  Moderating the Session (one meeting a month).
  • Leading congregational meetings (approximately four a year).
  • Pastoral counseling and discipleship.
  • Visiting our homebound sick and elderly members.
  • The church shares space with a private, non-denominational Christian school; the pastor must maintain a collegial relationship with school administrators while representing the congregation's best interests.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Senior Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree required.

  • Stable: Reflects the church's motto of "Safe, sane, and stable."
  • Open-handed: Patient with people who hold different perspectives.
  • Sense of Humor: takes the work seriously but not themselves.
