Hillside Church is a growing, gospel-centered community in Bloomington, Minnesota, averaging 500–600 in weekend attendance. We are deeply committed to evangelism, discipleship, and mission for the glory of God and the flourishing of our city. As we grow, we are prayerfully moving toward becoming a church-planting church, sending out people and leaders to advance the gospel.


We are seeking a Worship Pastor who loves Jesus deeply, shepherds people well, and understands worship as more than music—it is a formative discipleship practice that shapes a people living before God with heart, mind, and strength.



About the Worship Pastor


The Worship Pastor is a spiritual and artistic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the church's worship ministry. This role involves planning and leading dynamic worship services, cultivating a vibrant worship culture, and discipling the musicians, vocalists, and technical volunteers who serve in this ministry. The ideal candidate possesses a pastor's heart, a passion for leading people into God's presence, and a deep sense of humility and joy.



The Worship Pastor's responsibilities include:


Worship Leadership and Planning


• Plan, prepare, and lead weekly worship services and special events, such as Christmas and Easter services, ensuring a cohesive and spiritually enriching experience.

• Select, arrange, and prepare songs that are theologically sound and align with the weekly sermon theme in collaboration with the Lead Pastor and other staff.

• Lead the congregation in worship through music, prayer, and reading of scripture.

• Utilize and oversee worship technology, including sound, lighting, and media, to enhance the worship experience.


Team Development and Discipleship


• Recruit, audition, train, and mentor worship team members, including vocalists, musicians, and production volunteers.

• Invest in the spiritual growth of the worship team by providing pastoral care, conducting regular rehearsals, and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and humble team environment.

• Provide leadership for other worship ministries within the church, which may include youth and children's worship.

• Empower and raise up new worship leaders from within the congregation.


Pastoral and Administrative Duties


• Serve as a member of the pastoral staff, participating in staff meetings, sharing in pastoral care duties (e.g., hospital visits, weddings, and funerals), and championing the overall church vision.

• Communicate effectively with church staff and volunteers, managing schedules and providing all necessary resources for rehearsals and services.

• Develop and manage the annual worship ministry budget.

• Oversee the maintenance, organization, and purchase of all worship equipment and instruments.

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in music, theology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience leading worship in a church setting is required, with 3 -5 years preferred.


Qualifications and Skills


Spiritual and Character Qualifications

  • A mature Christian faith with a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Lives a life that is above reproach, marked by humility, integrity, and a servant's heart (1 Tim 3:1-7).
  • Possesses a deep passion for worship and a heart for shepherding people.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively within a pastoral team and with volunteers.
  • A demonstrated joy for evangelism, discipleship, and mission.

Musical and Technical Skills

  • Strong vocal ability and proficiency in one or more musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano).
  • Familiarity with a wide range of worship music styles, from traditional to contemporary.
  • Experience with worship technologies, including sound systems, multimedia software, and audio/video production.
  • Strong musical knowledge, including the ability to read and arrange music.
