Christ Church is located in Phoenix, Arizona with congregations in Mesa, Gilbert, Central Phoenix and Peoria, reaching over 4,500 people weekly. At Christ Church, they fly one flag—Christ crucified. He’s the one deserving worship. He’s the one proclaimed. He’s the one worthy of following. They are defined unequivocally by being doxological - in the doctrines of grace and salvation revealed in Scripture; missional - in that they are on the move, desiring to do everything they can to affect change in people’s lives; and intentional - having an awareness of the non-churches, seeking to remove barriers and having cultural sensitivity without compromise. Christ Church prioritizes transformation and life change, and love to tell and testify to the stories that demonstrate the power of the gospel.

Since launching in 2012 with a core group, Christ Church has grown significantly in Phoenix in weekly attendance across multiple congregations in the city. They offer vibrant and worship services where people experience the manifest presence of God. They have engaging programs for children, youth, young adults and adults, and a variety of opportunities to get involved through groups and studies. 

About the Congregational Lead Pastor

The Congregational Lead Pastor for the Peoria Campus is a unique role tailored for a leader who loves people and loves preaching. As a vision carrier/leader, they are the primary stage presence, focusing on the weekend service, leading the local pastoral team, not traditional staff management and operational responsibilities (which are handled by the central executive team). This pastor can fully dedicate time to shepherding the congregation, preaching, and engaging relationally with the people, all the while ensuring that discipleship is being pushed forward through the weekend services and ministries in Peoria. 

The Congregational Lead Pastor's responsibilities include:

Public Leadership & Weekend Experience

• Serve as the primary stage leader, vision carrier, and influencer for the Peoria congregation.
• Deliver expository and application-driven sermons.
• Ensure the pulpit ministry and discipleship is consistent with the theology, philosophy, and excellence of Christ Church.
• Pastoral oversight responsibility of the weekend services, ensuring every aspect of the gathering aligns with the documents of Christ Church.

Shepherding & Care

• Function as a relationally accessible pastor who ensures the congregation feels known and loved.
• Pursue the assimilation, spiritual formation, and mobilization of the congregation.
• Care for individuals to pursue Christ-likeness and reinforce behaviors and values associated with Christ Church.
• Personally engage in relationships with members for the benefit of their discipleship.

Team Leadership & Development

• Act as the leader among equals on the campus pastoral team.
• Identify, recruit, and develop qualified, likeminded leaders at the campus, including pastors and deacons.
• Partner with other members of the central pastoral team to defend sound doctrine and engage in a unified mission.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Congregational Lead Pastor:

Education and Experience

• At least 5 years of ministry experience, demonstrating maturity and the ability to effectively interact with God's Word.
• An undergraduate degree is required; a seminary degree is desired or the candidate must be willing to pursue one.
• Prior campus pastor or multi-site experience is helpful but not explicitly required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Exceptional communicator and preacher/teacher.
• Strategic leadership and detail-oriented organization.
• High Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and people smarts.
• Ability to carry a central vision while contextualizing it for the local congregation.

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

• Must be a married male.
• Meets the biblical qualifications of a pastor outlined in 1 Timothy.
• "Hungry, Humble, Smart" – eager to work, confident yet deeply humble, and highly collaborative.
• Must be a strong leader, have a good sense of humor, and be able to thrive in a playful, prayerful and unapologetically driven for the Kingdom culture.
• A high capacity leader who is motivated by working for God and excels at self-leadership.
