Meet Faith Community Church

Faith Community Church is a non-denominational Christian congregation in Sheldon, Iowa, with just over 200 active members and an average Sunday attendance of 150–175. We offer two worship services each Sunday:

  • 8:30 AM Traditional/Liturgical
  • 11:00 AM Contemporary

We are a multigenerational congregation with strong participation among young families, children, and youth. Our community is warm, close-knit, and grounded in Scripture, fellowship, and discipleship.


About the Senior Pastor

We are seeking a Senior Pastor who loves Jesus deeply and faithfully leads others into a growing relationship with Him, living a life that reflects biblical truth with humility, authenticity, and genuine care for people. This individual will be an approachable and relational shepherd, gifted in preaching and teaching God’s Word with clarity and conviction, while also providing compassionate pastoral counseling and support. The ideal candidate will lead with wisdom and grace, able to navigate challenges and conflict with discernment, and will work collaboratively with the Administration Board, staff, and lay leaders. They will have a heart for investing in people across all stages of life—children, youth, families, and adults—and will be passionate about outreach and engaging the surrounding community. Additionally, this pastor will be committed to equipping, encouraging, and mentoring volunteers, helping build a thriving and unified ministry.

The Senior Pastor's responsibilities include:

  • The Senior Pastor provides biblical teaching, spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and vision for the church. 
  • This pastor will work collaboratively with the Administration Board, staff, and ministry leaders to nurture church health, develop leaders, strengthen outreach, and equip the congregation for Faith Community Church in Sheldon, Iowa. 
  • Preaching & Teaching: Prepare and deliver biblically sound, relevant sermons (Sunday/Wednesday services) and lead Bible studies.
  • Pastoral Care & Counseling: Provide spiritual guidance, counseling to members, and conduct hospital/home visitations to support the sick and bereaved.
  • Vision & Leadership: Develop and implement the church’s strategic vision, mission, and goals in collaboration with administration board and committees. 
  • Staff & Ministry Management: Supervise, mentor, and train church staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
  • Worship & Ordinances: Plan worship services and oversee sacraments/ordinances such as baptisms and the Lord’s Supper.
  • Administration & Finance: Oversee church operations, including budgeting, financial administration, and policy implementation.
  • Community Engagement: Foster outreach efforts and represent the church in the local community. 

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Senior Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelors in Biblical Studies or similar degree 
  • Preferred Masters degree (such as MDiv., ThM, MACC, MACL)
  • 3-5 years of ministry experience. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Provide dynamic and biblically, sound preaching and teaching that inspires and challenges the congregation to grow in their faith. 
  • Pastoral counseling and relational care.
  • Ability to lead, guide, and manage conflict with grace.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven track record of building positive rapport.  
  • Comfortable leading and collaborating with Administration Board and staff, and lay leaders.
  • Able to invest in children, youth, families, and adults.
  • Passionate about outreach and community engagement.
  •  Supports, equips, and mentors ministry volunteers.
