About the High School Pastor

The High School Ministry Pastor will, under the supervision of the Family Ministry Pastor, provide leadership, development and direction for the High Ministry of CVCC. They will actively participate in the implementation of strategies for the expansion and increased impact of the High School Ministry of CVCC. The High School Ministry Pastor will develop and implement strategies for pursuing and discipling high school students and fostering their spiritual growth and will recruit and train volunteer leaders for the High School Ministry of CVCC.

The High School Pastor’s responsibilities include:

Responsibilities

  • Develop and create comprehensive strategies and ministry plans for pursuing and discipling high school students.
  • Hands-on leading, teaching, planning, coordinating and implementing, all regularly scheduled Sunday and Wednesday High school programming.
  • Actively participate in the recruiting, training and coordinating of volunteer leaders for all High School Ministry activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships and engage with parents and other family members of students.
  • Develop, plan and oversee major ministry events such as – summer camp, winter camp, serve opportunities, evangelism opportunities, etc.
  • Assist and collaborate with other leaders on major ministry events such as VBS, sports camp, mission trips, etc. 
  • Oversee, manage and administer the High School ministry budget.
  • Collaborate with Family Ministry Pastor, Executive Administrator and Senior Pastor to ensure seamless integration of High School Ministry with overall CVCC ministry strategy. 
  • Other responsibilities as necessary or as assigned by the Family Ministry Pastor or Senior Pastor.

Education and Experience

Experience

  • The High School Pastor should be a high-capacity leader who can transition the ministry from a small-church feel to a larger, more structured environment.
  • The ideal candidate should have at least 3+ years of ministry experience.
  • Ministry Specifics: Candidates must have a background in youth or student ministry.
  • Leadership Capabilities: The church is specifically looking for demonstrated experience in recruiting, training, planning, and delegating to volunteer leaders. This is critical as the role is moving from being a “pastor of students” to a “leader of leaders”.

Education Requirements

  •  Ordination is required for this position. But also offered as part of the hiring process.
  • Minimum Degree: A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a strong background in Biblical Studies.
  • Preferred Degree: Candidates with a seminary degree (Master’s) are preferred. In the church’s internal launch forms, a Master’s degree is listed as the required level to meet the “ideal” candidate profile, particularly because the church envisions this person potentially joining the adult teaching rotation in the future.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Teaching Ability: The candidate must have a proven ability to teach and communicate the Word of God effectively to students.
  • Ecclesiastical Alignment: Hiring is contingent upon the candidate becoming a member of CVCC and committing to the CVCC Statement of Faith and Purity Agreement.
  • Leadership Character: The individual must meet and commit to Biblical leadership qualifications and exhibit a “Heart of a Shepherd”.

  • Spiritual Maturity: Demonstrates a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a strong commitment to being a disciple of Jesus Christ and making disciples.
  • Honesty: Exhibits honesty, integrity, and Christian ethics. Actions are consistent with profession. Does what is right and speaks truthfully.
  • Commitment to Vision and Purpose: Commit and support the vision of Chino Valley Community Church, and organize ministry strategies and mechanisms around that vision.
  • Heart of a Shepherd: Strong desire and demonstrated ability to pursue, equip, train, counsel and build relationships with students, parents and volunteers.
  • Love for Students: Clearly exhibits a love for students and a passion for teaching, training and encouraging students for kingdom growth and living.
  • Solution Driven: Creativity to implement innovative programming and ability to figure out solutions for issues encountered in administering ministry.
  • Meets and commits to Biblical leadership qualifications  
  • Strong background in Biblical Studies. Bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates with a seminary degree preferred
  • Ministry experience in youth/student ministry required. Student/youth ministry experience in churches with over 800 weekly attendance preferred. 
  • Ability to teach and communicate the Word of God to students
  • Experience in recruiting, training, planning and delegating
  • Must be a self-starter, problem solver and a team player
