About the Discipleship Pastor

The Discipleship Pastor will help lead the effort to develop and implement a strategy for fulfilling the mission of Phoenix Bible Church by utilizing the 7 Marks of a Disciple as benchmarks and structuring avenues for spiritual formation, exhortation, and care for adults in the church, utilizing the 3 Movements of a Member to help people walk along discipleship pathways.

The Discipleship Pastor’s responsibilities include:

Forming

  • Coordinating the efforts to disciple adults through groups, classes, studies, and events
  • Oversee adult classes and community groups
  •  Develop a system for welcoming new people and connecting them with others
  • Develop a strategy for the Men’s and Women’s discipleship, including mentoring and small groups options
  • Organizing studies (4-8 week classes), equip nights, and seminars
  • Develop study guides, community group curriculum, and other supplemental materials for the Sunday sermon series
  • Discipling others in the church, specifically equipping them to become disciple makers who multiply their reach; this includes raising up teachers, group leaders, and developing team leaders as needed

Exhorting

  • Actively shepherding and connecting before, during, and after Sunday services
  • At times, help lead events (Starting Point, Membership Class, etc.)
  • Sharing the gospel with unchurched and de-churched people through invitations to church, and personal investment

Caring

  • Coordinate pastoral care training and development options with the Executive Pastor
  • Visitor follow-up, Counseling, pre-marital counseling, and general pastoral care

In Addition

  • Work humbly and collaboratively to accomplish the greater vision of Phoenix Bible Church
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Attend regular Check-ins with the Executive Pastor

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Discipleship Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Christian Studies, Biblical Studies, or related field required
  • 10 Years of experience in pastoral ministry preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to develop lesson plans and other teaching materials
  • Ability to communicate the truth of the Scriptures to small and large groups
  • Ability to develop others to lead and teach

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Regular involvement in church services, events, and other activities
  • Signed acknowledgement of Phoenix Bible Church’s “Statement of Faith” and “Staff Lifestyle Agreement” forms.
  • Signed acknowledgement of policies and procedures as stated in Phoenix Bible Church’s employee handbook.
  • Living out the spiritual principles outlined in the “Staff Lifestyle Agreement”; participation in a community group; tithing consistently; attending worship services; involvement in outreach; following Christ personally and passionately; sexual purity
