About the Major Gift Officer


The Major Gift Officer is part of Mission ONE’s Engagement Team and will play a critical role in expanding Mission ONE’s network of major donors, churches, and strategic partners. This position is highly relational and externally focused, requiring regular travel, in-person meetings, and active participation in events that raise Mission ONE’s visibility.

Reporting to the President, the Major Gift Officer will be responsible for cultivating and acquiring new donor relationships, strengthening church partnerships, and building networks that advance Mission ONE’s mission and fundraising goals.


The Major Gift Officer's responsibilities include:


Major Donor 


  • Cultivate and solicit gifts of $5,000+ with a focus on new donor acquisition.
  • Maintains a personal portfolio of 30-50 benefactors and manages their giving pipeline and portfolio. 
  • Develop and implement personalized cultivation and stewardship strategies that move prospects toward deeper engagement and giving.
  • Conduct face-to-face visits and maintain regular personal contact with donors.


Church & Community Partnerships


  • Serve as Mission ONE’s primary liaison to community partners, churches, especially mission pastors, and church leaders.
  • Develop strategies to engage new churches and businesses while strengthening relationships with existing community partners.
  • Represent Mission ONE at church services, missions’ conferences, and related events.


Events & Visibility


  • Represent Mission ONE at donor gatherings, conferences, and community events to increase visibility and expand the network of supporters.
  • Share impact stories, updates, and opportunities in alignment with Mission ONE’s communications strategy.


Collaboration & Administration


  • Collaborate with the President and Engagement Team to support and drive strategic initiatives for donor and church acquisition.
  • Enter, update, and maintain donor information and activity in Virtuous CRM.
  • Provide regular progress reports on donor and community engagement activities.



What you bring


The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Major Gift Officer:


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in sales, fundraising, advancement, or relationship management.
  • Experience making direct asks of $5,000 or more.


Qualifications


  • Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward major donor relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in building church partnerships or similar institutional relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a relational and professional approach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly share Mission ONE’s vision and impact.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for donor and church visits, as well as attend evening/weekend events when needed.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience with donor management systems (Virtuous or similar) preferred.
  • A demonstrated commitment to Mission ONE’s vision and values.
  • Thrives in a remote work environment.
