Cornerstone not only has a great impact on local communities, but also a rich history of supporting missionaries around the globe. Ministry partners are supported financially and through prayer, and many in the Cornerstone family have also participated in mission trips.

About the Lead Pastor

The Lead Pastor is responsible for the overall leadership, growth and development of the Cornerstone Church family as we fulfill our mission of leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus. We seek a proven leader who leads humbly, communicates exceptionally, develops leaders, and lives a passion for lost people and local communities. He will spend a majority of his time, focus, and energy on preaching, vision casting, leadership development, and creating a culture of disciples making disciples. He will oversee our pastoral care and shepherding functions.

The Lead Pastor's responsibilities include:

  • Inspire and provide transformational leadership to the church and staff in our focus on mission and in achieving our vision.
  • Personally provide or supervise top notch, Biblical teaching for live and online venues in collaboration with a teach team.
  • Embrace, champion, teach, encourage and live out the DNA of Cornerstone as defined by our statement of faith, mission, values, and staff expectations.
  • Develop Leaders – identify, equip and release paid and key volunteer leaders into effective ministry while providing high level direction in the leadership pipeline process.

  • Set and achieve goals set in collaboration with the Board.
  • Partner with Executive team to ensure standards of excellence are in place and implemented.
  • Build a sense of team, fun and unity within the paid and volunteer leadership of Cornerstone.
  • Ensure that people within every age group are growing in their love, commitment and sacrifice for Jesus.
  • Weekly Engagement - Assess and strategically address growth lids, leverage momentum and create opportunities for growth, or assess what is not working, what needs more resources to grow, what is working and how do we add energy to it.
  • Financial Giving – steward the culture of generosity and sowing into God’s Kingdom.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Lead Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • Attained a Masters level degree or higher in theological studies.
  • Experience in a leadership-level role at a church of 500-1000 in average weekly attendance. 
  • Spiritual leadership experience with ministry oversight and development for pastoral staff, leadership team, and staff of 10+ FTE (not necessarily direct reports but responsibility).
  • Church planting experience is highly desired.

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Demonstrates & models spiritual and relational maturity demonstrated by a hunger for knowing God, studying His word, spending focused time with Him and helping others know Christ.
  • Fulfills the biblical requirements of an elder in 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1.
  • Passion and experience in leading groups/large numbers of people in spiritual growth and transformation.
  • Able to embrace growth and change while leading thoughtful innovation.
  • Able to provide Biblical teaching through platform and video communication at high level.
  • Able to develop teaching skills in others within a team environment.
  • Demonstrates a strong Biblical knowledge and application.
  • Stamina to preach in 3 or more services a week.

Personal Leadership

  • Demonstrates high levels of both emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
  • Servant heart - Leads more out of spiritual and relational influence rather than relying primarily on positional authority.

Team Leadership

  • Ability to directly lead teams and inspire loyalty.
  • Proven track record of attracting and developing members of a team.
  • Must be a flexible and teachable team player.

Influencing Leadership

  • Ability to inspire large groups of people to action.
  • Must be able to relate well with staff, members, guests, and volunteers.
  • Perceived as a leader by and possesses influence with pre-believers.
  • Ability to develop future leaders for significant ministries up to and including potential church plants.

Organizational Leadership

  • Provide visionary leadership & strategic direction of the church.
  • Able to handle confidential matters and material with excellence.  
  • Demonstrates the ability to think strategically while staying focused on current priorities.
