Meet First Baptist Church of Clovis

FBCC is a welcoming Christian church located in Clovis that focuses on building community, spiritual growth, and discipleship. The church emphasizes a “come as you are” culture, encouraging people from all backgrounds to explore faith without judgment. FBCC offers Sunday worship services, children’s and youth ministries, small groups, and programs for men, women, students, and young adults. Their mission centers on helping people grow in their relationship with Jesus while creating meaningful connections with others. The church also provides online sermons, live-streamed services, and community events to keep members engaged throughout the week.

About the Youth Pastor

The Youth Pastor is a vital leadership position in the ministry and outreach of FBCC. Rather than working in a silo, you will serve as an integral member of the pastoral team, sharing in the spiritual care of our entire church family.

Your primary charge is to champion the discipleship and evangelistic outreach of students in grades 7–12. This involves more than just teaching; it’s about fostering a culture of mentorship. You will recruit and empower a team of passionate volunteers and partner strategically with parents. You will be equipping them as the primary disciple-makers in their teenagers' lives.

The Youth Pastor's responsibilities include:

  • Dependence on the LordA Man of Prayer: First and foremost, you will be a man of devotion to the Lord. You will lead out of a surplus of your own walk with Christ, prioritizing personal intercession for our students and families.
  • Championing Praying Church: Having spent 2025 striving to become a praying church, we continue to build this culture from the top down. You will actively participate in and lead corporate prayer, teaching our youth that prayer is not a supplemental activity but our primary source of power and direction.
  • Biblical Teaching DiscipleshipBiblical Teaching: Primary responsibility for the weekly teachings at youth gatherings, ensuring a steady diet of biblical instruction that points students to the Gospel.
  • Curriculum Oversight: Select or develop biblically sound resources for small groups and other teaching environments.
  • Life-on-Life Mentorship: Maintain a regular rhythm of one-on-one or small-group discipleship with students, modeling what it means to follow Christ.
  • Leadership DevelopmentVolunteer Cultivation: Recruit, vet, and train a team of adult leaders. Conduct regular training to sharpen their theological understanding and relational skills.
  • Student Leadership: Identify and pull alongside spiritually maturing students to help them discover their own spiritual gifts and a heart for service.
  • Parent PartnershipStrategic Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with the parents regarding teaching topics, events, and the vision of the ministry and their role within it.
  • Resource Provisioning: Create or curate resources (articles, books, workshops) that help parents navigate the specific cultural pressures facing 7th - 12th graders.
  • Wider Church InvolvementBridge Building: Actively work to integrate youth into the main life of the church (corporate worship, service projects, Mexico Mission trip, and mult -generational fellowship).
  • Whole-Church Involvement: Participate in weekly staff meetings, prayer meetings, and rotating "on-call" duties for the broader congregation (e.g., visitations, counseling, weddings).
  • Utilizing Other Gifts: Beyond the youth ministry, you will invest roughly a quarter of your time blessing the broader FBCC family by exercising your other specific gifts (these might include some of the following: pastoral counseling, wider church teaching, and preaching, adult discipleship groups, worship music, facilities care, digital presence). We want to see you flourish in the full breadth of your gifting and calling.
  • Events & OutreachEvents with Purpose: Oversee the planning of retreats, camps, and activities, ensuring they serve a clear discipleship goal rather than just "entertainment."
  • Mexico Mission Leadership: Champion the vision and logistics for our annual church-wide mission trip to Mexico. You will lead the charge in mobilizing our congregation-students and adults alike-to serve our global partners, fostering a heart for the Great Commission within the FBCC family.
  • Campus Life Partnership: Lead our frontline outreach and discipleship efforts on the local high school campus. In partnership with Youth for Christ, you will direct the Campus Life Club, building bridges with unchurched students and creating a pathway for them to hear the Gospel and connect with the local church.

What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Youth Pastor:

Education and Experience

  • Proven Ability to Teach: You must be able to handle the Word of God faithfully. Whether through previous ministry or other leadership, you have a proven track record of teaching the Bible in a way that is clear, expository, and Christ-exalting.
  • Ministry Track Record: Ideally 5+ years of experience leading in a ministry context. We are looking for "fruit on the trees". Evidence that you can build teams, shepherd hearts, and execute a vision.
  • The Devoted Learner: As a staff, we are self-motivated learners. While formal theological education is a bonus, we prioritize a "teachable" spirit. We are committed to "training the called" and will provide significant in-house theological development and pastoral discipleship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Self-Motivated Grit: A "let’s get it done" attitude. You don’t wait for a manual; you see a need, pray for wisdom, and move toward a solution with excellence.
  • Relational Intelligence: The ability to prioritize people over projects, building high-trust relationships with both teenagers and their parents.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You are a "team-first" pastor who finds joy in serving the wider church family, not just your specific department.
  • Church Membership: You (and your spouse, if applicable) will become members of FBCC upon employment.
  • Mandated Reporter: You will be required to complete Mandated Reporter training with the state of California.

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Gospel-Centered Life: Your identity is rooted first in being a child of God, not a minister of the Gospel. You possess a clear, vibrant testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a life marked by the fruit of the Spirit.
  • A Man of Prayer: You are a man of the hidden life. You lead out of a surplus of your own walk with Christ, demonstrating a history of personal and corporate prayer. You don't just talk about prayer; you live in a state of joyful dependence on the Lord.
  • Commitment to Growth: As a self-motivated learner, you are disciplined in your own spiritual growth. Immersed in the Word and dedicated to personal sanctification. You are hungry to be discipled even as you disciple others.
  • Theological Convictions: Full subscription to FBCC’s Statement of Faith, including a joyful embrace of our theological DNA.
  • Character of an Overseer: Must meet the biblical qualifications of an elder/pastor as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9. We value a life of integrity and holiness over a specific degree.
