What it's like to live in Fayetteville, NC
Living in Fayetteville, NC, means being part of a city with a strong sense of identity, shaped largely by its deep military ties and historic roots. As home to Fort Bragg, Fayetteville proudly calls itself “America’s Most Pro-Military Town,” and that connection is visible everywhere - from veteran-owned businesses and military-themed landmarks to the steady presence of service members and their families throughout the community. This military influence also contributes to the city’s remarkable diversity, creating a welcoming, international feel that’s uncommon for a mid-sized Southern city.
At the same time, Fayetteville balances its legacy with forward momentum. The historic downtown area, centered along Hay Street, has undergone a notable revitalization, now featuring local restaurants, arts venues, and community events when galleries stay open late and music fills the streets from live bands playing on Festival Park stages. The also historic Haymount district in the heart of one of Fayetteville’s oldest neighborhoods, offers shopping and dining experiences, and most within walking distance of the beloved Cape Fear Regional Theater, bringing world class arts to Fayetteville since 1962! Residents enjoy easy access to outdoor recreation, whether it’s walking or biking along the scenic Cape Fear River Trail, exploring the lush Cape Fear Botanical Garden, or seeking adventure at ZipQuest’s treetop zipline courses. Sports enthusiasts love cheering on Fayetteville’s professional baseball, hockey, and basketball teams.
